We had a go at candle dipping yesterday. We got the idea and instructions from Earthwise.
We melted the beeswax pellets in an old tomato tin in a bath of hot water on the stove.
Dipped the wick into the melted wax - we used 15 ply wick as we were only making tiny candles (birthday candle size) to start with and it can be used to make tea lights which we may do as well.
Then dip it into cold water to set the wax, the first couple of times you need to pull it straight as the wick curls up. You then repeat this process until the candle is the required thickness.
We need to find some deeper containers so that we can make longer thicker candles, but this is a lovely process to do with kids as long as you are careful with the hot wax and watch over them. Lady A is going to make some for the teachers for school as end of school year presents.

I'm so glad you posted this. I've really been wanting to try this but wasn't sure what to melt the wax in. Maybe I'll start with the birthday size too. Thanks!

What a good idea - they'll love them I'm sure. There's something about the smell of hot wax which I adore.

Looks like a great project! We'll try it once Abbott gets out of school (he goes until the 12th).
