This is what has taken up alot of the family's time recently the practices and the preparation for the local Maypole dance which takes place at the Spring bank holiday in May in this village.
This was Lady A's second year of dancing, luckily the dress I made last year still fits so there wasn't too much sewing to do. The weather stayed warm and dry right up until after the May Queen's feast after the dancing then just as the Punch and Judy show got under way the rain started to come down. We were very lucky with the weather as it was freezing last year and she had to wear a cardigan underneath the pinafore last year.
It was a great day that the kids thoroughly enjoyed, stuffed full of ice creams, candyfloss and hotdogs and having been on the fair rides they are now about to slump into bed with lovely memories to take with them

How wonderful! I love seeing everyone's maypole dance photos. The dress is too cute, as is her flower halo. :)

Wow - this looks like quite a production! It must be thrilling for the children - wish we had something like that here. Your daughter looks beautiful.

That looks like enourmous fun - the last time I saw Maypole dancing was a very long time ago and I was the one doing the dancing!! It's lovely to see some traditions are still going.
take care,

oh, drool. i wish that we celebrated may day properly around here. this year, it was freezing cold and raining, too slushy to dance around, except to keep warm.
can't wait to explore your blog some more.
